The Greeks had a word for it, but the Watchtower didn't

i recall as though it was only 60 years ago, sitting in the kingdom hall on those horrible chairs, learning of the four forms of love: agape, philia, storge and eros.. the watchtower never mentioned pragma.. pragma: this is a committed, compassionate love that often grows as two partners continue to cherish and care for each other.

this type of love is associated with being together for a long time.

in some cases, the passion of eros can grow into pragma over time, this forging a lasting bond.. i think i know why; the watchtower isn't into committed, compassionate, cherishing and caring, are they?.

There were two other linds of love the Greeks knew but the Greek scholars at The Watchtower didn't:

Ludus: This word is associated more with flirtation and casual infatuation with a potential partner. This type of love is meant to be fun and playful.

Philautia: While self-care seems like a modern concept, the ancient Greeks were well aware of its importance. In fact, it was so important, that they had an entire word that was devoted to describing the love and care for one’s self. If you’re a caregiver, self-care is extremely important not only for your own well-being but also for the well-being of those under your care.

I expected this kind of reply. I have two comments:

1. Whether you believe you CAN or you believe you CAN'T, you're right. These are called self-limiting beliefs.

2. You told us, "I have a degree in Business and majored in finance." and yet your wealth is a result of an inheritance. GOOD FOR YOU, but I don't think I'd listen to any financial or business advice you might offer.

Hoser commented, "You don’t need 5 million to retire. At least not in Canada" Hoser, please give me a figure for what you think you DO need to retire in Canada. Canadian citizens need to have this information.

Of course ANYONE who lives long enough can reach "retirement age," but that isn't retirement. People who are completely dependent on a government or charitable institution for their daily bread are not independent. (I do not consider Social Security or pensions as charity. In both cases, they are thngs YOU paid for.

As a group, Jehovah's Witnesses are poor. They've been taught to under-achieve and to give what little they have to the Watchtower. They have been played for fools.

One thing that has irked me for more than half my 75 years is that while people talk about the importance of retirement planning, almost nobody will give you an answer to "How much do I need?"

So I'll offer an answer. If you are starting your retirement fund today, set a target of $5,000,000.00 (five million US dollars) as your goal, and be prepared mentally and emotionally to increase that number due to inflation.

Yes, it is a BIG number, but it can be done. Others have done it, you can too. It is a matter of setting priorities. The POWER of compound interest is amazing!

It is helpful to pay for the advice of an advisor with a good track record. Use caution.

This is very satisfying. For one thing, advising people to prepare for their old age is prudent, but it is also SO GOOD to see that The Watchtower is essentially admitting that all the "inspired advice" from the era of the Knorr/Franz two-headed wild beast was baseless speculation largely due to the imagination of a man who saw himself as an "oracle," supported by the "oracle's irrational fanatic true believers.

Remember, folks, just because you believe something doesn't make it true. That is what I believe.

Why do most Ex jW W‘s seem to be liberal?

i’m just curious about this dynamic i don’t care personally one way or the other but i do have friends who have chosen to be conservatives and they get totally destroyed on social media pages for their choice.

it’s almost like a lot of ex jw w become as toxic and his judgmental as jehovah’s witnesses themselves what’s up with that?

i also know conservative ex jw’s that can do the same so again i’m not leaning one way or the other i’m just noticing factual observations.

A.: They seem to be that way because they are. JWs are typically gullible, economically disadvantaged people inclined toward laziness who are poorly educated and enjoy believing in a free lunch. If Jehovah won't give it to them, perhaps the totalitarian state will.
